Limiters

Limiters are a specific form of compressors, or dynamic range controller. For the complete line of limiters, see our list of "compressors" under that particular product category! Limiters are typically defined as a compressor that is of particularly high speed and can work at fairly high ratios, such that it can serve more of a "brick wall" capturing of audio content, thus "leveling the audio" while preventing overloads and distortion on the device which you are feeding. Unfortunately, the term "limiter" is often ill-defined, mis-defined, or simply mis-used... for that matter, maybe compressor/limiter were never really defined as separate terms- the terms Limiter and Compressor have both been used incorrectly so frequently and have been used so interchangeably that the resulting line between them has been thoroughly blurred. In fact, even our own separate categorization of these two similar items, on our site www.soundpure.com, could use plenty of work, or at least refinement. Nevertheless, Compressors, Limiters, Level Control Devices ("levelers"), Dynamic Control Devices, or whatever you want to call them have their place in the recording process. We have a huge variety of tools that fit many of these definitions, and have a huge collection of them in our own high-end recording studios. The most important thing is your particular needs, not the definition. Whether you are looking for something smooth, aggressive, clean, colored, fast, slow, or whether it be for mastering, mixing, tracking, a special effect, or for use on your live rig, we have a large variety of superb dynamic tools and a team of serious recording experts that are here to help you make your selection. We don't have a bunch of jokers sitting in office cubicles at a call center answering your questions; we have real recording engineers available at just an e-mail or a phone call away that will help you select the best dynamic tool (or tools) for your specific needs.
